provide greater resistance to loosening.

What socket fits a square nut?
13mm Square Head Socket.Sockets for square head bolts and Square Nuts. Bolts and screws are classified by their shank or shaft size.
Application
What is a square nut used for?
Square nuts have a greater surface in contact with the part being fastened, thereby providing greater resistance to loosening, and a greater resistance to tightening as well. Square nuts are used along with flat washers in order to avoid damage from their sharp edges, and help to increase the strength of the fastener.
